Leila's Build a Burger Birthday Party

Assessing the loot. I think she did very well! :)

Opening her Slinky. I asked her later what her favorite gift was...she told me the slinky was her favorite. I should have saved my money on that leapfrog computer thing I guess.

Leila really wanted the cupcake off of her carebear's tummy. Forget the fact that it is at least twice the size of the rest of the pieces...you only have a birthday once a year right?

This is the face that Leila makes when you sing happy birthday to her. She sure looks like she enjoys it, huh?! :)

Cory and I hosted a birthday party for our big 3 year old last weekend. We are extreme dorks, who also happen to really like to eat, especially meat. We decided to switch things up a bit from our typical weekend grilling. Cory would probably tell you that his favorite restaurant is Red Robin, so we used the many burger options of RR to inspire us. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed some great burgers with some unconventional condiments. Of course Leila didn't care one bit about the food, well aside from the cake. The cake she REALLY cared about. She has been telling me for months that she wants a Carebear cake so Grandma Lori whipped one up for us. (Thanks Mom!).

For me, the highlight of the party would definately have to be Leila's enthusiasm for her presents. Even last Christmas she wasn't that into gifts. I mean, she likes getting new toys, but she didn't really get worked up about it. On Saturday we had her presents stacked on her little Ikea table and she was caught red handed sitting in her little chair with a present, and her back turned to the room, trying to hide the fact that she was sneaking a peak! What a stinker! She later tried to sneak a different present into her bedroom so she could rip into it and when it was finally time for presents, she was SUPER excited. In true kid fashion every time she came across a package of clothing, she barely gave it a look as she tossed it aside for the next present. A little bratty, yes, but I still enjoyed it and Leila had a great day. We are all so thankful for our family, but Leila is especially thankful for the toys they buy her. ;)

Laundry

We have a laundry situation in this house. The situation is, that an entire room (or two) have been taken over by a mix of dirty and clean laundry. As we are planning a nice family birthday party for our big 3 year old on Saturday, my task for the day has been to go through the laundry and find a place for it.

I picked up a tiny little pair of pants that Thea wore once, and will never wear again. They are too small. As I made my way through the pile of clothes, reloading the empty tub that had held these tiny clothes before our baby arrived, I couldn't help but feel a little sad. Alright, a lot sad.

There is just something about that warm little bundle with their new baby smell and their tiny soft sleepers that I am in no hurry to leave behind. And right now I am really starting to come to terms with the fact that this is it. The last time I will have a newborn, the last time I have a squishy little one sleep on my lap. It is all just rushing past me too fast. Leila will be 3 tomorrow. Sometimes I will catch a glimpse of the baby in her, or remember a day, like a spring day a couple of years back...one of the first spring days of the year when the sun was shining into Leila's room and I was sorting through the laundry, with my little helper by my side and I just want to freeze time and drink them both in. This is one of the most heartbreaking, bittersweet, parts of motherhood.

Leila

How beautiful is this baby girl? Only 2 more days of life with a 2 year old...my baby is growing up.

Things are going well, I will write more later I am sure but just one little tidbit to give you an idea, this morning I asked Leila to spread out a blanket on the floor for me to put Thea on and she said, "Mommy, I want Thea to use my nigh-nigh blankie" and she spread out her very well loved, prized blanket that she has been carrying around with her since she was nine months old, and asked me to lay her baby sister on it so she could look at her face and sing to her. And Thea stared intently at Leila as she lay on nigh-nigh and smiled at her big sister. I am so happy to have brought these two together. :)

And one of miss Thea, charming her daddy :)

Thea is one month old!

I have seen lots of bloggers who note the change in their little ones each month by taking a photo of them next to the same object each month. This is Thea's Easter doggie that Grandma Lori and Grandpa Carey gave to her. Expect to see it again each month! :)

I can't get enough of this cute little face. Check out those cheeks!!

Look at my little chunker!!!!

Easter!

With most of the kids in the family not making it to Easter at Grandpa Warren's this year, Leila managed to do pretty well in the Egg hunt, though I think she was pretty impressed with Lexie's hunting abilities!

Smiles

So I know that babies usually start smiling around 6-8 weeks, but I promise you that I am not making it up that Thea started smiling around 3 weeks old. I was convinced they were real when she would smile when I stuck a mirror in front of her face. Tonight big sister Leila was singing to Thea and I caught my proof on camera! In these pictures Leila was singing to Thea and Thea was smiling and watching her big sister...it was a really neat moment.

My Girls

Thea likes to relax in the tub just like her Mommy does! :)

Zoey and Leila taking a much needed nap on the couch.

My beautiful princess trying out her new nightgown. Thank you Aunt Sheila, as you can tell, she loves it! :)

Cory and his baby girls. Leila was reverting somewhat to her baby days. She wanted daddy to burp her like he did when she was a tiny baby like her sister.

Thrush

This is what you get when you treat the yeast infection in your breast that was caused by the medication you took to heal the mastitis infection. If anyone ever says that my blog paints an unrealistic picture of motherhood, let them be reminded of my candidness with this picture of Thea on Gentian Violet.

Better not quit my day job

While sitting on the edge of the bathtub begging Leila to hurry up and pee or get off the potty while I held a screaming infant who was trying to suck milk out of my arm, I realized that no matter what I do, I am failing somebody at all times, sometimes everybody who relies me to take care of them. Being a mom to two is really hard.

Most times I am failing at least one human and the dog.

I don't even want to get into the details, I am too brain dead from my exhaustion to write a coherent post anyway, so I will leave you with a quote from Leila today during our nearly 2 hour long battle over nap time. "Momma, you are gonna make me very angry!" And this is only the beginning...

I am trying to laugh about it so I don't break into sobs. Is this day over yet?
